Looking to Save Money at the Co-op?
By Laura Pfister, Media Coordinator
We hear from time to time that people feel the Co-op is higher priced than other stores. In the past, we may have earned this perception. But not anymore. We took a long, hard look at ourselves and we talked with other Co-ops across the country. Together, we are pooling our resources to bring you organic, household staples at everyday competitive, low prices. Welcome to Co+op Basics.
Co+op Basics includes over 300 pantry and household staples. From beef to milk to cereal, we’ve lowered the margin and price on all those items to make organic, healthy food accessible to every shopper.
However, the idea of offering lower prices on healthy organic food is not entirely new to us. For 45 years, the Ashland Food Co-op’s mission has been to create greater organic food access for people of all incomes. And while we've had many iterations of low pricing programs, none have been so robust as Co+op Basics.
We are so confident that Co+op Basics will be less expensive or comparable to another store’s organic product equivalents, that we encourage you to do your own price comparison. We did. And our Co+op Basics prices were hard to beat.
Still not convinced Co+op Basics can save you money? Join us for Co+op Basics 101: Big flavor, small price. Learn to shop on a budget and prepare flavorful meals that are wildly affordable. Members of our Marketing and Education team will teach you handy tricks on how to save at least 26% off your shopping trips at the Co-op.
"I want to thank you for the enthusiasm and for an informative and tasty evening. Now I tell folks about the 'MYTH' of the Co-op being expensive and how the class will help them to buy within their budget."
Susan Lopez, January Co+op Basics class attendee
