Ashland Food Cooperative has entered into a contract to purchase an undeveloped 1.8 acre lot at 120 Clear Creek Drive in Ashland.

1. Why is the Co-op purchasing the property?

We want to stay in the downtown core, not only to continue to serve our loyal customer base but also to continue to play a vital role in the community. By purchasing this property we have secured our option to develop it in the future, as we continue to explore the best way to meet the needs of our shoppers.

2. Where is the property located?

The property is at 120 Clear Creek Drive, off Oak Street behind Ashland Lumber.

3. How big is the property?

The two tax lots making up the parcel total 1.8 acres.  The Co-op's store and parking area totals 0.98 acres.

4. How far is it from the Co-op?

The lot is about 1 block as the crow flies (across the railroad tracks) or about a third of a mile via Oak Street from the store.

5. When will the Co-op develop the property?

This purchase is an early step in a more extensive design process that needs to involve representatives for all the key stakeholders and will include all of our facilities.

6. What will it look like?

Our goal is to have a store that is a delight to shop in, where you can get the food you love and trust, and where you can explore and learn more about healthy food and its preparation.

7. What will happen to the existing store & facilities?

Our intention is to retain them and explore how they can best be used given their close proximity to Ashland's vibrant downtown.

8. Why didn't the Co-op buy a property at the South/North end of town, for a second store?

Those options were seriously considered in our early planning, and we explored a number of possibilities. We decided that the best way we can serve our owners is to expand our space and offerings in downtown Ashland.

9. What impact will this have on local traffic?

A recent traffic engineer assessment indicates that existing infrastructure is suitable for handling any traffic generated by a retail food store in this location.

10. Who should I share my questions, concerns and ideas with?
