Charlie Douglass

Charlie grew up in New Jersey and spent time in New Hampshire and Florida. He moved to Ashland in 1976 and lived on 40 acres up in the Greensprings. The back to the land movement had many lessons to teach: resourcefulness, perseverance and most of all community.

Neighbors helped neighbors. During that time, Charlie worked at the Co-op when it was on 3rd Street. Coming down from the mountains to resupply, he would restock the bulk herbs and teas. Then, as now the Co-op was a meeting place and community hub. A 36 year career at Harry and David followed as well as raising a family. Serving on AFC’s outreach committee as a volunteer and 8 years on the AFC Board. Retired now and doing some travel blessed with a wonderful partner, Charlie is finding time to fill in some bucket list items, planning a camping trip up into Canada to see the aurora borealis this fall and last year having hiked the Camino de Santiago.
