Hopefully, everyone is taking great care of their skin this summer by using sunscreen before they go out into the sun and reapplying often when sweating and while enjoying the water. Prevention is always the best remedy, but inevitably someone, usually me, will always overdo it and need some relief. Most important to remember when you are sun burnt, the body needs to rehydrate in order to heal the burn so make sure to drink plenty of water. Getting into a cool bath tub with lavender and chamomile essential oils brings relief when you have time to take a bath. Aloe Vera gel works wonders for healing the skin and I use it whenever I get burnt and reapply as much as I possibly can until the burn goes away, this usually helps to prevent peeling as well. For quick relief though, I keep a couple of spray bottles in the fridge. In one I put mostly water and add 15 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops of chamomile essential oil. This really helps take the sting away and it smells great! In another bottle I put half water and half white vinegar and a 5 -1 10 drops of tea tree oil. Both of these remedies bring instant relief and since you store them in the refrigerator they are nice and cool and even your little ones are likely to enjoy the cool misting.
