So many local and organically grown foods can assist your lungs in managing this onslaught of smoke and can be found in our abundant produce department:
• Dark greens and golden-orange vegetables are full of beta-carotene, a key nutrient in protecting the lungs. Examples are: carrots, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, kale and wheatgrass. The green veggies noted are also rich in chlorophyll which helps the lungs to discharge irritants and increase oxygen levels in the body.
• Mucilaginous foods such as kombu, flax seed and fenugreek help to remove deposits in the lungs and soothe irritation.
• Pungent foods such as chilies, garlic and ginger also help protect the lungs and support immune function.
You might consider visiting our deli/juice bar which offers wonderfully potent and quick options:
• Wheatgrass shots • Carrot Juice • Divine 9: Carrot, celery, beet, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, parsley, garlic, cilantro • Third Eye: Carrot, apple & ginger • Wellness Shot: Lemon juice, garlic, ginger with a shot of Echinacea
